How Dental Insurance Works
Every dental policy is unique, so we cannot give you any specifics as to how your coverage might work. However, we can give you a general overview of how many dental plans typically operate:
- Preventive care: 80% - 100% covered
- Minor restorative care: 70% - 80% covered
- Major restorative care: 50% covered
Also, keep in mind that your plan may have some stipulations on how you use your coverage. For example, it may enforce:
- An annual maximum: This is the greatest dollar amount that your insurer is wiling to pay out for approved services in a calendar year.
- A deductible: This is an amount you must pay before your insurance kicks in.
- A waiting period: Most plans do not require you to wait before you can take advantages of preventive care. However, you may have to wait 6 – 12 months or longer before you can use your insurance for restorative services.
What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?
Your Ontario public health insurance doesn’t cover dental services. Rather, it is geared toward providing your basic medical needs. However, in some cases, your medical coverage might apply to certain emergency dental procedures, such as treatment for facial trauma, if the procedure is considered necessary for your overall health. Dental insurance, on the other hand, has more of a focus on prevention and routine care. Its goal is to help you maintain your oral health and, when necessary, get it back on track. Many dental plans are part of insurance packages that also include vision care, prescription drug coverage, and other benefits that supplement your public health insurance.
In-Network vs. Out of Network
Whether or not our practice is in your insurance’s network, our team may be able to help you understand and maximize your coverage.
If a dentist is in-network with your plan, it means that they have signed a contract with your insurer that controls the prices for specific services. This arrangement helps both patients and insurance companies save money. Torbram Dental is proud to be in-network with:
Out of Network
Even if our practice is not in your insurance’s network, we may still accept payment from your insurance plan. You will be able to enjoy high-quality care from your favorite Brampton dentist — and still enjoy significant savings on your services! The only plans we do not work with are government plans.
